A 26-year-old man from Adelaide’s north has been charged with sexual assault after a woman reported he had sexually assaulted her.

Police said they were investigating the alleged incident and the man had been charged on Tuesday with sexual penetration of a child under 14, sexual assault of a person under 14 and one count of causing grievous bodily harm.

“The investigation is ongoing and there is a possibility that this individual could face more charges,” Inspector Tony D’Agostino said.

“It is important to remember that this is a serious allegation, and we will work with the appropriate agencies to ensure that the proper resources are provided to the victim’s family.”

The woman, who was not named, was a 26-month-old baby at the time of the alleged attack.

Police have not identified the woman or her unborn child.

“We are working to determine what further charges might be laid against the accused,” Inspector D’AGOSTINO said.
